Heavyweight Boxer of a Generation Passes

Today we solemnly announce that the great George Foreman has passed away at age 76.

His family shared this statement on instagram earlier today.


“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.
A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.
We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.”

Many of us know of “Big George” and his relentless spirit, both inside and out of the boxing ring. Decorated as a champion, winning a lifetime professional 81 boxing matches, with a staggering 68 by knockout. Foreman was also a gold medal winner in the 1968 Olympics Mexico.

Foreman has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame as well as the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Most will know his more famous matches, “Rumble in the Jungle” against the late, great Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) definitely ranks as most notable. Boxing aficionados will cry out over Foreman V Frazier, both I and II.

Not Just A Fighter

What made George Foreman spectacular as a public figure wasn’t just his esteemed professional boxing career. It would be a tragedy not to make his skill known, but more so to ignore the great achievements he accomplished outside the ring.

Foreman was a Christian Pastor, giving healing word and guidance to youth and families for several decades.

Across many years of serving his community, Foreman was awarded several achievements, both religiously and communal.

We also can’t forget to mention his small achievements. Word is, he made some sort of small cooking appliance?

George Foreman Grill, sold over 100 million units.

I definitely don’t have three of them

George Foreman was as impactful as he was wholesome. Millions of kids grew up wanting to be as loved and successful as he was.

He will not soon be forgotten.  Rest in peace Big George, you will be missed profusely.
