Quick raise of hands, who has or knows someone who has a Tesla? Putting the public opinion of Elon Musk aside, Tesla’s are high profile electric vehicles. Anybody who has made the move towards eliminating fossil fuels and doing their part for the Earth should be at least in part applauded.
While some use their vehicles as a status symbol, the fact is that a Tesla, like anything else, is an expensive piece of personal property. That’s why it is a sad and alarming sign of the times that people are actively destroying these expensive pieces of personal property.
Over the last year, tens of millions of dollars in damage have been inflicted on Tesla-related property. This includes personal Tesla vehicles, charging stations, and dealerships. This act of “domestic terrorism”, as Attorney General Pam Bondi has labelled it, continues to occur despite the high profile attention.
Many have spoken out against the act. President Trump in particular has spoken out against the destruction. “I view these people as terrorists,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office last week.
Many other Republicans and Conservatives have also given sentiments of support and condemning these hurtful and criminal acts. However, that support doesn’t come from all sides.
Support Only Comes From Some
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, refused to condemn the violence against Tesla when questioned on Capitol Hill.
In fact, few Democratic representatives have spoken out against any of it. This comes as the FBI launches a task force investigating Tesla crime. The ‘domestic terror’ phrase used to set Democrats off on a quest for justice. Now, it seems that has changed.
Only as far back as 2018 Pelosi commended the Democratic party for refusing to accept the House GOP’s continued failure to investigate domestic terrorism.”
Yet today, the party stance has reversed. Apparently it’s only a failure to investigate domestic terrorism if it comes from the right. From the left it’s just business as usual according to Pelosi.
Back in 2022, Jeffries’ words were something to agree with. “We have to act decisively to address the poison of White supremacy and domestic terrorism in America. It’s a poison, it’s a cancer, it’s destroying our society. It shouldn’t be a partisan issue. It’s not a Democratic issue or Republican issue, dealing with the crisis of violent White supremacy. It is an American issue.”
It was apparently only an American issue when it aligned with attacking those Jeffries disagreed with.
Giving the cold shoulder to this issue speaks volumes louder than any no comment.
Some Are Left With Heart
That isn’t to say that no Democrats have a heart.
Rosa DeLauro a Democrat out of Connecticut’s 3rd district vocally denounced the attacks.
“I’m opposed to violence. I don’t believe in violence. People can voice their opposition, but we can’t live in a violent nation,” DeLauro commented. “People can be opposed to something, and people boycott stuff all the time… but the violence needs to stop. We can’t really make that a part of what our national discourse is.”
Ro Khanna, California Democrat in California’s 17th district also came out against the heinous crimes.
“There is zero tolerance for acts of vandalism against Tesla. Spraying the words “nazi cars” or lighting fire to dealerships and chargers is wrong. Period. All Democrats should condemn it,” he said in an X post earlier this month.
FBI Continues To Probe Issue
Nationwide, there have been attacks in 10 states, with more being reported almost daily.
A woman was charged in Colorado last month for federal charges of malicious destruction of property. She is being charged in connection to a string of vandalism involving “incendiary devices”.
Another case involving federal agents in South Carolina is against a man who allegedly set fire to Tesla charging stations near Charleston. An affidavit from an ATF agent says authorities found a group of writings in the man’s possession that attacked the Government and Musk’s DOGE. The word manifesto was avoided.
Attacks like these are becoming all too common, with further destruction occurring in Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, even Austin. That’s Tesla’s HQ.
The criminal actions aren’t even restricted stateside. Attacks on Tesla dealerships and personal cars have been reported in Berlin and Canada.
We’ve Been Lucky So Far
At this time, nobody has died in these attacks. Vehicles burned, buildings shot at, threats and explosives found. But that doesn’t mean things won’t escalate.
The FBI has identified a website that was posted online, with chilling features. The website, which will not be posted publicly, is fashioned as anti-Musk. However, the site doesn’t stop at Musk.
The site features an interactive map displaying Tesla owners’ details. Names, addresses, e-mails and phone numbers.
Also displayed are locations of Tesla charging stations, and addresses of those involved with the DOGE organization.
Perhaps the most jarring is the fact that on this map, the cursor is displayed in the form of a Molotov cocktail.
But we can be absolutely sure that it’s simply for peaceful protesting….
